Cushman & Wakefield’s Tampa office operations began in June 1978. The Tampa office was the second Cushman & Wakefield office in the state of Florida opening shortly after the Miami office and it was the first commercial real estate firm to have a presence in Tampa.
Cushman & Wakefield Tampa office was established 36 years ago with the acquisition of the J.L. Hearin Real Estate firm, a successful local brokerage operation owned and managed by Evelyne Andretta, a prominent industrial brokers. At the time, John Dowling, executive director from our NYC corporate office, was representing Verizon (formerly known as GTE) in looking to establish a southeast US headquarters. With no current space available within the size requirement in the Tampa Central Business District, the decision was made to break ground on Tampa City Center. The first step in establishing the location was to create the quad block in the center of downtown Tampa which would hold Tampa City Center, the Hilton, the city owned Fort Brooke Parking Garage, and one other parking lot for future development. Upon certificate of occupancy in 1981, Tampa City Center quickly became one of the most recognized buildings in the state of Florida.
Cushman & Wakefield Tampa is distinguished for transacting highly complex and bigger deals in the market, which has made us the “go to” firm for these types of transactions. We have been recognized by the Tampa Bay Business Journal as the #1 firm by volume more than any other firm over the past 36 years. The local professional organizations – NAIOP (National Association of Industrial and Office Professionals) and FGCAR (Florida Gulf Coast Association of Realtors), consistently rank Cushman & Wakefield Tampa’s deals and brokerage professionals at the top of the list. When NAIOP gave out their first ever Brokerage Firm of the Year award, it was Cushman & Wakefield Tampa who won it.
Larry Richey, who has led the Tampa office for the past 24 years, is deeply involved in the community and has held chairman positions at the Tampa Downtown Partnership and the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation, as well as being the President of FGCAR in 2013. Larry has recently become the Area Leader overseeing all of Cushman & Wakefield’s Florida operations across the state. The Tampa office consistently supports the major local and national business organizations referenced above, as well as the Westshore Alliance, the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce and Friends of the Tampa Riverwalk.
